Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry
WASEDA UNIVERSITY

 Research Interests

The Kanomata Group (Functional Organic Chemistry) started its research activities in 1999 at the Department of Industrial Chemistrya), Meiji University and moved to the Department of Chemistryb), Waseda University in April 2005.

Our research focuses on the design, synthesis, and reactivity of structurally unique organic molecules that exhibit novel functions and properties. Specific targets include cyclophane molecules with planar chirality, model compounds that mimic the function of coenzyme NAD, natural organic compounds and their analogs, and organic molecules with reversible carbon dioxide absorption and desorption capabilities.

As of April 2025, the group consists of one doctoral student, six master's students, six undergraduate students, and one faculty member (Professor Nobuhiro Kanomata). See more here

For those who are interested in joining our group as graduate students in international MS and Ph.D. degree programs (English-based degree programs), see the following URLs for your reference.
